yet another eighth wonder

the final list of the new seven wonders of the world was announced on july 7, 2007. it was organized by New Open World Corporation (NOWC) by a worldwide popularity poll.

the entries were actually impressive, though i'm a bit disappointed that our very own banaue rice terraces wasn't even listed with the other finalists.

here in the philippines, it was always tagged as the "eighth wonder", which simply means "not one of the seven wonders". i mean, come on... it ain't just a mountain with giant stairs. it's a 2000 year-old masterpiece built with minimal equipment, largely by hand. i haven't actually seen this tourist spot personally (the closest that i got was on tv. hmf!). since i was a kid, i was amazed on how the indigenous people of batad were able to construct something so huge in such a primitive era. not that i'm being patriotic or whatsoever, i just think that it should have been included at least with the semifinalists, IMO. nevertheless, i'll try to visit this famous tourist spot one of these days. ^_^

could have been because the government haven't been kind enough to preserve such art. oh well...disappointing indeed...

@janis: yeah. and the people who built it weren't forced to work unlike the ones who built the pyramids of egypt. tulungan pa nga daw eh..
