baywalk no more

i haven't actually seen the famous baywalk but i've seen it on tv. i heard this place revived manila's image from being dirty to classy. but it seems like i won't be able to see the beauty of this place anymore. what baywalk was known before as a new hangout place for the barkada and family during night time is now gone. because of his policy of "no liquor in public places", newly re-elected mayor alfredo lim ordered to dismantle the structures located in the area. the bars and foodstalls aren't there anymore. he also wanted to get rid of the baywalk bands. his reason for banning the bands is that some of the female musicians wore sexy clothes. he thinks those bands are associated with pornography. you think that's absurd? his proposal is even more absurd: to replace bands with “talented students who play native instruments.” geeessh..

just look at the difference. before...

and after...

it's already 2007 and people's tastes have changed, public places themselves are sometimes not enough to get the crowd, they need to be anchored on something that draws the people, the place is a leisure hub, walking around the place and enjoying the view is not enough, it needs to have more activity into it because the city crowd can easily get bored, dining, retail, and entertainment establishments are essential, although they need to be screened carefully to create an appropriate mix. it doesn't always have to be an establishment placed there to attract people or for gimiks. why don't they try a themed street-market selling the freshest produce like the weekend market here in makati. that would surely attract bay condo dwellers. or how about an exercise class, free martial arts lessons, basically any kind of activity that would give life and character to the place. and don't forget the access, it must be seamlessly connected to the city by way of public transport for this place to be really accessible to everyone. before tearing down the baywalk structures, mr. lim should have had a concrete plan on what to place there afterwards. he said in an interview before that he doesn't really have any concrete plans for the baywalk yet (they say plans are already in the works) but he just have to demolish the structures now. it just seems pointless.

1. transfer all civilization to at least 50 meters above sea level....
2. pray for a drought...
3. migrate to nepal...
4. transfer all job opportunities in the mountains...
5. mandatory scuba training...

6. repeat 1 to 5...

if it doesn't work, construct gigantic metal supporters 200 kilometers below the philippine area of responsibility and raise the philippines. sweet!

on a serious note, i think it starts with one word: discipline

rp baseball team may be left behind over chocolates

for eating too much chocolate, the national baseball team may fail to defend its southeast asian games title. a high-ranking philippine olympic committee official revealed monday that the olympic body got turned off when members of the team carted away loads of free chocolates during the 15th asian games in doha, qatar, in december 2006.

goodness, this is so humiliating. i can't imagine how the other foreign athletes reacted when they saw this kind of behavior. i
mean, yeah, there's no fuzz on getting some freebies, but to take loads of 'em ain't cool. geez... just because of chocolates.. tsk tsk tsk

yet another eighth wonder

the final list of the new seven wonders of the world was announced on july 7, 2007. it was organized by New Open World Corporation (NOWC) by a worldwide popularity poll.

the entries were actually impressive, though i'm a bit disappointed that our very own banaue rice terraces wasn't even listed with the other finalists.

here in the philippines, it was always tagged as the "eighth wonder", which simply means "not one of the seven wonders". i mean, come on... it ain't just a mountain with giant stairs. it's a 2000 year-old masterpiece built with minimal equipment, largely by hand. i haven't actually seen this tourist spot personally (the closest that i got was on tv. hmf!). since i was a kid, i was amazed on how the indigenous people of batad were able to construct something so huge in such a primitive era. not that i'm being patriotic or whatsoever, i just think that it should have been included at least with the semifinalists, IMO. nevertheless, i'll try to visit this famous tourist spot one of these days. ^_^

shit happens

why do we have to make things so complicated when good times turn out bad. nobody's perfect pare. why even kris aquino has her own problems to deal with! (showbiz huh?) if somebody did something wrong, eh di sabihin mo. and if you did something wrong, eh di mag-sorry ka. reality isn't like those in movies where there's a protagonist and an antagonist. you can't just blame everything on a person and come out clean. ano to, teleserye? naman. people commit mistakes. we all do. it's just a pity to see how people make a frenzy out of something that can be solved in a simple conversation. no, it ain't me. i'm just an observer. lesson learned: shit happens, live with it and move on. peace out!

the pldt csr agent

i recently heard the pldt agent cursing scandal. poor csr. why didn't she check if the mute button was on. *snobs* but it really happens. sometimes you just can't control it. i remember it also happened to me. the difference in my case is that i was talking to an american meaning he wasn't able to understand anything i've said when i lost my temper. (tee-hee ) i guess this csr reached the point of burnout and stress. i can't blame her. the call center industry is really not ideal for the sensitive and shy. if you're fond of talking and answering phone calls then yes, this job is for you. i've had my share of experience for almost 2 years and yes, it was a stressful job. but not all of it of course. having a good company beside you really makes the workload easier to handle.

haven't heard it yet? click the link below and press the play button:

things to ponder

there are a lot of things that i realized and some that i still have to ponder:

change is inevitable. you've always thought that it's final. kala mo happy ending na. may it be your job, routine or the things that you're used to. you just have to face it. past is past. the only thing that i still and probably would never understand is why some people don't even know the effect of their decisions.

shit happens. if somebody did something bad to you, eh di gumanti ka. if somebody said something bad about you, then try to change yourself. malay mo totoo di ba? and if something bad happens to you, then learn from it.

friends come and go. understand the fact that friends come and go. try to spend the most of your time with them before it's too late. and when they go, you also need to learn to let go. but there will always be a precious few that you should hold on to.

you'll always want more. even if you have everything, you always want something better. you upgrade your pc because its slow. you change your fone because it's outdated. ganun talaga. you're human. you'll always want something better. try to buy yourself a gift once in a while.

always look at the bright side. for the past few weeks, i've been complaining about the way i do my job. but i came to realize that i just complain because i wanted a perfect job. may gulay, hundreds of applicants tried and dreamed of working at amn. no calls, no irate callers, no surf control (on friendster! hehe).. who wouldn't want that? and here i am whining about this and that. a wise person once told me that there's totally no stress in doing your job. it's the people that cause you stress. baka ganun nga. siguro nga namimiss ko lang ang midshift. ganun lang talaga yun. hayyy

last but not the least, never lose hope. some say things happen for a reason. siguro nga. sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down. ika nga ni ethel booba: "ang buhay parang gulong... nasusunog!"

yun lang.... makakain na nga
